Jennifer Hawkins wows Myer autumn fashion launch at University of Melbourne

SLEEK, chic and feminine collections featured in the Myer autumn fashion launch at the University of Melbourne tonight.

Myer maximised the moody vibe of the architecturally iconic underground South Lawn carpark with a beautiful and sophisticated show of the latest looks for the new season.

Reworking the retailer’s traditional runway presentation, the showcase featured elaborate and edgy sound and lighting displays with sleek Tesla cars as racy props.

Jennifer Hawkins opened the show in a figure hugging Alex Perry gown with exaggerated batwing sleeves and close it in a classically spectacular silver strapless Toni Maticevski dress.

“It’s (the Maticevski gown) one of my favourite dresses I’ve worn. It’s so romantic,” Hawkins said before the show.

“I think the show is really glamorous but with a bit of grunge, which is perfect given the location.”

A cast of 30 models showcased 100 of the key new season looks from local and international designers including Yeojin Bae, Roksanda, by johnny, White Suede, Self Portrait, Morrison, Aje, Balmain and Misha Collection.

Melbourne’s beloved black featured heavily in an array of silhouettes and textures, from ladylike lace and velvet to more masculine and edgy leather.

But colour is also key for the new season, with rich plum, burgundy, deep green, bold red and khaki popular in several collections.
